As we saw on Sunday, December 27, 2020, Biblical blessings or benedictions as they are often called differ greatly from well wishing or hopeful thinking, because
- They are grounded in God’s unchanging nature – for example: “the God of peace,” “the God of grace,” “the God of all comfort,” “the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
- They are rooted in what God has already done for us – for example: “saved us,” “brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus,” “blessed us with every spiritual blessing,” “given us an inheritance,” “predestined us for adoption into his family.”
- They remind us who we are and whose we are – for example: “the sheep of his fold, the flock of his pasture,” “the holy ones called in Christ,” “those chosen before the foundation of the worlds,” “the beloved of God.”
- They ask God for things only God can give or accomplish – for example: “a spirit of wisdom and knowledge,” “the peace that surpasses all understanding,” “equip us with everything good for doing his will,” “cause you to stand.”
- They seek God’s glory over everything else – for example: “to Him be glory and honor forever and ever.”
- Choose a personal or family benediction from one or more verses in the Bible, there are over 100 below.
- Have every member of your family write it out in your own handwriting, as simply or artistically as you’d like.
- Immediately take turns reading the benediction out loud in from of one another.
- Post your Benedictions in places where you will pronounce them – on the dining room table, the bedside table, the inside of the front door, the car’s dashboard, etc.
- Pronounce the benediction over each other every time you can.
- Enjoy God’s blessings on your life as you remember who God is, what God has done, who you are, whose you are, and what God wants for you.

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ.
2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
2 Thessalonians 3:16
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
May the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
