We believe the words of Jesus that it is to these little ones the Kingdom of Heaven belongs. We desire to welcome the children in Jesus’ name knowing that when we do this we welcome Him as well.
In this spirit of hospitality we want to provide a safe, loving place where these precious ones can hear and know that they are loved by the Father. Here are some of the key elements of Children’s Ministry at Oakland:
- Walking with parents as they fulfill their vocation to lay a foundation of Christian faith for their children.
- Leading children towards understanding and receiving God’s love as ultimately demonstrated in Jesus Christ.
- Providing opportunities for growth in prayer, worship, Scripture study, fellowship and service of others.
- Providing a tangible way for individual families and members of the church to fulfill the vows taken when children are baptized.
We offer Nursery care, Sunday School, and Children’s Worship during Sunday mornings. During our 10:30 worship services, children, birth – 3 years old, are cared for in the Nursery. Children, four years old through first grade, are invited to worship with their families in the sanctuary until the children’s blessing, at which point they will be escorted out for children’s worship. Children in third grade and higher participate in the worship service for its duration, and are encouraged to utilize our Sermon Journal as a way of connecting deeper with the sermon. During the 9:30 Sunday School hour, we offer Sunday School classes for children two years old through fifth grade.
