January 31 – 5th Sunday Gathering – What is LENT?

Been wondering why some Christians wear ashes on their foreheads? Ever wondered what is this crazy thing called “LENT” that happens before Easter? Hear people talking about “Giving up ______ for Lent” and wondering if it might be the newest diet craze? Wonder about the history and purpose of Lent?

Us too. So we’re going to have a special joint Sunday School to explore whether Lent is Biblical or not and whether we should participate or not? Come learn the history of Lent, the purpose of Lent, and how you might practice Lent.

Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016
9:20AM in the Fellowship Hall

There will be donuts and coffee and probably some fruit for those people too good for fried sugary goodness.

August 30 – Donut Olympcs and Rally Sunday 2015

it is time to take the next step.
step up from Sunday attendance to Sunday School commitment.
kids, step up to an older Sunday School.

Rally Day is a party with purpose for all ages. The party is to get people plugged into community, and encourage adults and children to commit to a Sunday School Class for the Fall. So we’re going to play with our food as we get connected to Sunday School Classes this Fall.

Sunday School is our version of small groups, and one of the primary tools God uses to shape us into disciples. Sunday worship and sermons are great tools for growth, but it takes intimacy, discussion, and accountability to grow significantly.

If you attend on Sundays and at large group events, but are not plugged into a Sunday School class, this is the day to come act a fool, hear about classes, and get connected to a small group.

Donut Olympics

Let's have fun while we get connected.
The 2015 Donut Olympics will feature games for all ages including such legendary, ancient Greek games like Donut Stacking, Donut Sculpting, Donut Hole-In-One, and Donut Roller Derby, just to name a few.
BE THERE!

August 26 – SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER TRAINING

On Wednesday, August 26, we need all Sunday School Teachers and Children’s Church Volunteers to attend an important training session. This meeting is designed to give you the tools and knowledge you need to successfully and comfortably lead children. You’ll learn about available supplies and resources, about schedules and emergencies, and about lesson plans and activities.

We will also discuss expectations and guidelines for teachers and volunteers so that everyone is on the same page.

Thank you all for choosing to serve Oakland to make more and better disciples.

August 23 – Sunday School Appreciation Dinner

Sunday School Appreciation Dinner
August 23, 2015 @ 5:30PM

Sunday School is one of the primary tools Oakland uses to transform us into more and better disciples. Great growth occurs in small groups where we are intimately known and can conversationally learn the Bible. Oakland is grateful for the dozens of people that teach Sunday School every week, and so to say thank you, we will host them at Oakland for Dinner. This dinner is only for people who taught Sunday School last year. If however, you want to say thank you, feel free to write a note and drop it by the office.
